Welcome to SDRA-2019!
Wednesday Feb 27, 2019
This year is special, we are celebrating an anniversary. The Software Defined Radio Academy is taking place the fifth time. Having started back then in 2014, we ventured into the idea of creating a bridging format between industry, academia and the interested public of radio amateurs. Now, five years later we are counting an audience of more than 1300 subscribers to our Youtube channel, which is quite a lot for such a narrow topic.
In the past five years it has become undeniably clear that the future of radio technology is with Software Defined Radio and we have seen the arrivel of Open Source SDR transceivers to the market. This is particularly noteworthy since they open a new era of experimentation on all levels to radio amateurs who do not only want to burchase a readily built device, but instead dive far into this new wonderful world of signal processing, where devices have become greatly polymorphic, being a iversatile radio and a measuring device at the same time, just depending on the currently loaded firmware.
So there will be a new SDRA conference in 2019, taking place back at the traditional weekend end of June. The SDRA will be part of the Friedrichshafen HAMRADIO fair again and we will be happy to welcome our speakers and our audience, this time possibly also with a live video stream to all the viewers world wide who cannot attend.
The Software Defined Radio Academy has the following goals:
- Support and drive institutional and personal research around Software Defined Radio
- Establish a conference where SDR developers can meet
- Attract Radio Amateurs and show paths into SDR
- Define a scientific format for talks, presentations and posters
- Define a publication platform together with the DARC publishing house
- Demonstrate modern radio technology to the interested public audience
The SDRA implements the procedures and the routine of a major scientific conference. Our publishing house (DARC Verlag GmbH) has agreed to take care of the publication of articles on most recent research. Depending on the amount of papers, we will create an independent proceedings document, or as alternative include papers in publications of other major Amateur Radio conferences. We also work with a Senior Programme Committee of three Scientists (professors) from German universities who are also Radio Amateurs.
Though we do not just want to address scientists, but the general Amateur Radio public. We welcome all contributions, tutorials, beginners' guides to SDR and the like. Even if you've never considered Software Defined Radio, we want to attract you as a listener with insightful information.
If you have conducted own research and experiments, please consider our Call For Papers:
